Dr. Luis G. Vargas was born in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. He attended the
University of Puerto Rico where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Physical
Therapy Degree, Cum Laude. Upon graduation he moved to Boston, Massachusetts
where he began his career as a physical therapist at Boston University Medical
Center with a clinical concentration in Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy. The
knowledge and experienced gained in this position led to other clinical
opportunities. He was Chief Physical Therapist at Pondville Hospital, a medical and
surgical oncology hospital and years later accepted another administrative clinical
position as Assistant Director of the Physical Therapy Department and Supervisor of
Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy at The Memorial Hospital, a large teaching
medical center in Worcester, Massachusetts affiliated with the University of
Massachusetts. In the area of cardiopulmonary physical therapy he also occupied
the post of Senior Cardiopulmonary Clinical Specialist at the New England Sinai
Hospital in Stoughton, Massachusetts.
Dr. Vargas completed his Master of Education Degree in Educational
Administration at Cambridge College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His
exciting career as an academician and academic administrator began with his
appointment as Director of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Newbury
College in Brookline, Massachusetts. Later, he had the opportunity to serve as a
faculty member at Northeastern University, Boston-Bouve College of Human
Development Professions, Department of Physical Therapy. His area of academic
expertise was Human Gross Anatomy and Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy. Dr.
Vargas occupied several positions as Program Director in academic institutions at
all levels. He has chaired seven academic programs in physical therapy, four at the
associate degree level, two at the baccalaureate level and one at the master’s
degree entry-level but has served as faculty on two other programs at the doctoral
first professional entry level degree in physical therapy where he exercised his
teaching expertise as “academic anatomist” for these degree programs.
